Postural Functions of the Diaphragm and its Movement in Persons With Low Back Pain

The persons with low back pain have been shown to have a diaphragm that is able to perform the dual task (trunk stability and respiration) when the stability of the trunk is challenged. The diaphragm is suppose to increase intraabdominal pressure during contraction of its posterior and anterior portions. This study shows how struggling to contract the anterior portion may lead to low back pain. It further investigates how the diaphragm influences spinal changes.
